Calling unsigned bands…….

Posted 21 March 2010 | NEWS

229 are launching their own unsigned night in October. This is your chance to play in the intimate smaller Venue 2 following in the footsteps of Florence & The Machine, Tine Tempah, Fanfarlo, Friendly Fires and Lightspeed Champion to name a few. We’re starting off with a series of nights on the dates as listed below, focusing on different genres each time. 229 is within touching distance of the BBC and the media world of Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury and we’ve hosted some very successful industry showcases in the past, so you never know who may pop along to have a listen! Our main aim is to provide the best possible platform for new talent to promote themselves in London and we promise all bands will receive first class sound and production with Head of Sound, Alessandro Bonifacio on hand to give you the best possible sounding show. We’ll also have the venue’s photographer on site to take some professional shots prior to going on stage and we’ll also offer to record the audio from the show as well. So if you think you’re worthy, send us a link to a demo to 229. and we’ll have a listen.

Here are the dates:
Wed 6 Oct: Indie/ Pop/ Rock/ Folk/ Alternative
Wed 3 Nov: Reggae / Ska / Dub / Afro / Roots / World
Wed 1st Dec: Electronica / Trip Hop /Hip Hop / Experimental / DnB

Hailing from Clacton-on-Sea – The Lowriders are 4 working class geezers from Essex with passion & soul. Over the last 3 years they have created a reputation as a incendiary and inspirational live band. ‘Mixing killer songs with a rampant live performance’ – Onslaught “We’ve had comparisons, but beauty is in the ear of the beholder. If we sound like someone then it will be a band that has passion and balls; great bands that we pay homage to in a subtle way, but not conscientiously” – The songs and the musical feeling created has always been the most important thing. Energy and grooves, reinforced with honesty and balls out rock kind of attitude, makes the live gigs worthy for any soul searcher. ‘Highlight of the weekend with their very own stratospheric rock’ – scootering magazine The band have been hidden away for 6 months recording their album, co-produced with local genius Chris Secker. Recorded at their HQ The Kings Arms, St Osyth, Essex. Rapturous and defiant supports with The Futureheads, The Minus 5, Cosmic Rough Riders, Mohair to name but a few. The band have previously been winners of the Virgin Megastore best Unsigned, Live sessions and airplay on the Phill Jupitas’s radio show and radio2XS, and championed by many promoters and DJ’s alike. ‘A proper band’ Zane Lowe More details on the band http://www.myspace.com/thelowridersuk & http://www.myspace.com/thelowridersuk2 the debut album on national release March 2010 on their own ‘adrenalin’ label

Electric Fusiliers, are an up and coming 4 piece from Hillingdon, West London who have been described as both “post punk new era grunge” – Khadja Pandor (http://www.aaamusic.co.uk/2010/08/10/mirrorkicks-barfly/) and “twisted indie” – Alexander Mitchell. Evidently, our music spans a variety of genres within rock and we attempt to defy convention in our songwriting, refusing to stick to one genre. We have been gigging in london since May, and in that time have played a number of well known venues, including Camden Barfly and Monto Water Rats, and we have upcoming shows at 02 Academy Islington (24th August) and Purple Turtle (1st September), by which time our debut EP will be released. We would love an opportunity to play an unsigned night at the 229, and would relish the chance to play our music at such a brilliant venue. For demos and information please find us on facebook (search ‘Electric Fusiliers’) or visit Myspace.com/electricfusiliers.
    Cheers
